Australian comedian Aamer Rahman released the first episode of his new webseries “Can We Kick It?” Wednesday on YouTube. And his first guest was New York City-based fellow comedian Hari Kondabolu.
Rahman and Kondabolu meet up in the episode the day before Kondabolu’s Netflix standup special “Warn Your Relatives” is released. The two stroll through the Queens neighborhood of Jackson Heights, which has historically been a home to South Asian communities. Kondabolu affectionately calls the neighborhood “Little India” though he follows it up by saying the place is more like Little Bangladesh or Little Pakistan now.
“And I’m finally making my pilgrimage,” Rahman quips.
Over the course of the 16 minute long video, the two discuss the neighborhood, racism, and comedy. According to the posted description, the series was shot over the space of 10 days in New York City as Rahman met up with his friends to discuss “art, politics, food, and culture.” No doubt the next episodes are going to be just as rich as this one.
